I found the wonderful stock provider Idol Hands after they faved my picture Alpha Omega Sacred Heart tat. I simply fell in love with the stock and thought it was absolutely perfect to use as a not so conventional Mucha/Novae piece. It took me ages to complete, the painting had been sitting on my desk for close to 2 months before I finished, as always I just wasnt happy enough with it.
Now before everyone tells me Ive spelt caution wrong, Id like to tell ever one it was on purpose as my own privet little joke, Idol Hands has a bunch of stock photos wraped in caution tape, I was considering putting this in, but I never really liked the whole human in caution tape, so its cation. Cation (pronounced cat-eye-on) is a chemical property when an atom or group of atoms are carrying a positive charge. As caution tape is generally a negative image, I wanted to portray a positive one and the word cation looks like a misspelling of caution anyway.
Painted on A4, 190gram water colour paper using watercolour paints and pencils.
I'm tremendously flattered by this. Watercolors is a beautiful medium that I've enjoyed using but I never thought I'd see something of my own rendered in it.
It's REALLY impressive to see an "art nouveau" effort done too.
Your comments make me like the piece all the more. Nonsensical, nostalgic logic mixed with science? Mix me a cocktail of that, baby. The little elements of the flowers and gun make me smile. Thank you so much for supporting my insanity and joining in the party.
I will feature this in my next DA journal and probably shortly in my LiveJournal account too.

I'm so happy you're impressed by it, so often stock artists barely give a nudge to the people who have used their stock (oh and thank you for the fave too!!). I quite enjoy watercolours as well, I find they’re the best way to get a good mix of colours in, but not in an over bearing way.
I think science and art are too often controversial, I love the aspect of mix them up! Thanks for taking the time to read my nonsensical comments!
Do you just paint in watercolour? What paints tubes or pans do you use? How big are you works? (in size inch ") Do you have a wacom tablet? Where do you get you ideas?
Thanks alot from Chris Simmons (Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK)
1. Yep, I also use water colour pencils and occasionally I use ink.
2. Mostly Windsor and Newton or Cotman, they’re expensive, but they last a long time and give amazing colours. Quite often people give me gift packs of water colours for birthdays and Christmas so I have a large collection of unknown brands as well, but I don’t often use them. I always use tubes; I find it easier to clean up, with better colour variations and easier to create colours
3. Most of the time I use A4 pages (11 x 16.5 inches) but I don’t paint to the edges, so I guess most works would probably be 10 x 15. Sometimes I work as big as A3 or as small as A5, it depends on the piece I think.
4. Yep, I’m not sure of its exact name, but it’s a small one. I have problems with my wrist when I use a mouse, so I only ever use my wacom (even at work)
5. I’m a huge fan of Alfons Mucha and the Art Nouveau Movement. I take a lot of inspiration from there, as well as life experiences, I also work better while listening to radio documentaries, learning is my weakness.

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
